Gives good show. I was never much of an Eagles fan but had always liked Don Henley’s solo stuff on the classic rock radio stations I listened to growing up, especially his harder, grumpier stuff like “Dirty Laundry” and “All She Wants To Do Is Dance.” Aida loves all of his stuff — even his schlocky Eighties hits — and was nostalgic to see his opener, Shawn Colvin, a beauty we’ve seen dozens of times over the years. So we were all in when they came to town. We set our expectations low since Henley was touring a new album rooted in Country Western, not our favorite genre. But he did not disappoint. He’s got great stage presence — he told some funny, heartfelt stories at well-paced moments — and surrounded himself with some very talented musicians, including three gorgeous background singers, each working their own vocal style and taking turns at the front of the stage dueting with Henley. And his voice is perfection: loud, gruff and without flaw. He sent us out the door pleasantly surprised … and ears ringing just right.
